The Massachusetts Envirothon is a dynamic, hands-on environmental education program and competition that challenges high school students to think critically, work collaboratively, and engage with their communities. Each year, teams from across the Commonwealth come together to showcase their knowledge, creativity, and commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. 

Teams are evaluated in five key areas: 

• Forestry 

• Wildlife 

• Water 

• Soils 

• Current Issue 

Together, these five areas form the foundation of the Massachusetts Envirothon experience—where learning meets leadership and students develop the knowledge and skills to become stewards of our shared environmental future. 

Preparing for the Competition 

Once your team registers, you will have access to technical manuals for the four environmental science stations: Forestry, Wildlife, Water, and Soils. These resources provide the foundational knowledge and information your team will need to prepare for the May Massachusetts Envirothon Competition. 

At the competition, teams will put their knowledge to the test through hands-on, station-based assessments at each of the four eco-stations. Teams will have 40 minutes to complete each station, applying what they have learned to identify, analyze, and solve real-world environmental challenges. 

The Current Issue provides an opportunity for teams to go beyond the technical stations—researching a timely environmental topic, working with their communities, and developing creative, actionable solutions.
