Welcome!

Good morning environmental enthusiasts,

May is once again upon us, and you all know what that means…the Massachusetts Envirothon is back! This year’s current issue is centered around transitioning to clean energy and how that can create a more sustainable future for us all.  I am especially interested to hear about the ideas teams came up with and how they envision their own community’s role in a changing world and climate going forward.

We are excited for this year’s event to be held for the first time at Wachusett Reservoir.  A big thanks go out to Kelley Freda and her DCR Division of Water Supply Protection team for hosting us.  We are also grateful to the Town of Clinton School Department and the Town of West Boylston DPW for their assistance with the site and to the MWRA for providing us with cold clean water for today.
I’d also like send my appreciation out to the rest of the students, coaches, volunteers, judges, and Envirothon committee members for putting their time and energy into making this event the success that it has always been.  Without you all the Envirothon wouldn’t be possible.

The Envirothon is a celebration of community, and we’d like to dedicate this year’s competition to retired Forest station leader, Joe Perry Jr. His team spirit and uplifting hugs and fist bumps will be sorely missed. MAD Cap Horse!!

Enjoy the day!

~ Justin Gonsor, Chair, Massachusetts Envirothon Steering Committee

What happens at an ecostation?

At the Massachusetts Envirothon, teams rotate through four ecostations, in addition to giving their Current Issue presentation. Each ecostation has a different emphasis: forestssoilwater and wildlife.

What is the Envirotrek Lunch?

Through the year teams study hard, practice new skills, meet new people, find new places, try new experiences, get wet, get dirty, get tired, design a t-shirt, stay up late to prepare, and generally have a good time getting ready for the May Envirothon competition. This is the EnviroTrek!
