Clean Energy for a Sustainable Future

Teams will discover how Massachusetts communities can chart a just transition to a clean energy future. They will explore the environmental, political, and socioeconomic impacts of current energy consumption; the different sources of clean energy; the challenges facing the transition from traditional fossil fuels to clean sources; and how energy use decisions affect people and natural resources in their communities (e.g., wildlife, soil, water, and forests).

The key question your team will answer in your presentation is: “What is the path to an equitable clean energy future for our community by 2050?”

To find this path you will need to explore:

  2. The current state of energy efficiency and clean energy use and who is overseeing this and other related actions/mitigations within your community
  3. The impact of energy use and generation on natural resources in your community, past, present, and future
  4. The environmental justice implications of past and present energy generation, sources, and use and opportunities for the future
  5. The future opportunities for energy efficiency, natural resources conservation, and the transition toward clean energy in your community; noting the clean technological advances and climate policies/legislation that support the transition to an equitable a clean energy future
