Clean Energy for a Sustainable Future
Teams will discover how Massachusetts communities can chart a just transition to a clean energy future. They will explore the environmental, political, and socioeconomic impacts of current energy consumption; the different sources of clean energy; the challenges facing the transition from traditional fossil fuels to clean sources; and how energy use decisions affect people and natural resources in their communities (e.g., wildlife, soil, water, and forests).
The key question your team will answer in your presentation is: “What is the path to an equitable clean energy future for our community by 2050?”
To find this path you will need to explore:
- The history of energy use and efficiency in your community and environmental justice implications of that history
- The current state of energy efficiency and clean energy use and who is overseeing this and other related actions/mitigations within your community
- The impact of energy use and generation on natural resources in your community, past, present, and future
- The environmental justice implications of past and present energy generation, sources, and use and opportunities for the future
- The future opportunities for energy efficiency, natural resources conservation, and the transition toward clean energy in your community; noting the clean technological advances and climate policies/legislation that support the transition to an equitable a clean energy future
