The Massachusetts Envirothon Community Engagement Award recognizes teams who do high quality community research using knowledge and skills from both the natural and social sciences, then use what they have learned to engage with the wider world on the issue.
Qualifying for this award in 2024 required teams to become familiar with the transition to sustainable energy sources as it is occurring in their communities. They conducted in-person interviews, visited project sites, made recommendations on web resources, and researched pending state legislation relevant to clean energy. The teams’ work – and reflection on what they found – was supported by the Research and Action Strategies guide and documented using the Research and Action Checklist. In addition to documenting their efforts, each Envirothon Community Award team participated in a zoom interview that offered the chance for a wider public to learn about their work and perspectives.
